Thoughts on Day 11 from the Founder & CEO of GradeSlam, Phil Cutler:
It’s day 11 AKA the end of week 2 (though we work weekends so the weekdays don’t really end).
Today was jam packed with events going on. We had a special talk about founder wellness and staying active etc. Health coach Lindsay Davis spoke about the importance of taking care of your body to ensure optimal performance. The talk was really well organized and had a lot of similarities to the talks we used to receive at McGill Football training camp.
I find a healthy lifestyle imperative to success. I see so many of my friends who live sedentary lives - hardly ever exercising and eating and drinking too much. Part of the reason I love Santa Monica so much is that it is practically impossible to eat garbage. Everyone is so active and even the chains are healthy (Whole Foods, Shop House and my fave, Tender Greens). In any case, I certainly take some pride in my active lifestyle where I walk everywhere and try to eat as much raw and unprocessed food as possible.
The talk was a great start to the day and served as a reminder to the importance of one’s health and well-being (both physically and mentally). For anyone working in a startup environment, and especially for CEOs, you have to make sure you’re taking care of your body and your mind or you simply won’t be able to lead the team and keep up with the fast-paced work environment.
