The University of Pittsburgh is awesome and so is Pittsburgh itself. You know it, I know it, now it’s time the rest of the world knows it. Check out this list of 10 reasons why Pitt is awesome.
1. It’s located in the best neighborhood in Pittsburgh (Oakland)
Pittsburgh is a city of neighborhoods and Pitt is located in Oakland, just 3.5 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. Full of art, culture, and students, Oakland is the perfect location.
Pitt students throw the best tailgate parties! And this really isn’t a surprise when you realize how sports-crazy Pitt is. The Panther spirit is like no other. During basketball season, the Oakland Zoo is always packed, and same goes for Heinz stadium during football season.
3. The Pitt Program Council
The University of Pittsburgh’s Program Council is simply amazing. They are constantly organizing activities for students, from bowling to skiing to movie nights.
4. The Cathedral of Learning
Cathy is one of the most famous buildings in America. Situated in the centre of the Oakland campus, it is the second tallest university building in the world - you can’t miss it. And of course, the most magical time of year is Light Up Night.
5. Dave and Andy’s Ice Cream
Located right near campus, Dave & Andy’s Ice Cream is extremely popular with students. With over 200 flavors to choose from and handmade waffle cones, there’s nowhere better to grab a study treat!
SafeRider is a lifesaver and every university campus in the world should have a service like this. It provides safe transportation to any student who requires it in the evening and early hours of the morning.
7. Going Out on Thursday Nights
Thursday night is student night at the University of Pittsburgh - and all the bars nearby know it. Get on board with an early weekend, because Thursday is the night to go out (cheap drinks all around!).
8. Free Access to Carnegie Museums
Yet another benefit that should be granted to students everywhere: free entry to museums. However, not every city would have museums as amazing as Pittsburgh’s. The Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History is a favourite among students, but students also have free access to The Carnegie Science Centre, The Andy Warhol Museum, and The Carnegie Museum of Art.
9. Late Night Pizza at Sorrentos or Antoons
I’m sure most Pitt students have experienced this - but hey, as far as drunk food goes, Sorrentos and Antoons are excellent.
10. Quidditch Club
The University of Pittsburgh has a Quidditch Club! Whether you’re a Harry Potter lover or not, you can’t admit, it’s super entertaining watching the Quidditch Team practice on campus.
