CEGEP is a very exciting time, and there are TONS of reasons you should be looking forward to attending Dawson. For the purposes of this article, we’ve narrowed it down to the top six. So get pumped, take advantage of all the college has to offer, and we hope you have a wonderful year!
1. The Large Student Population
Dawson is the largest CEGEP in the province, with a student population of approximately 7,500 full-time students and 2,500 part-time students. This student population means that the Dawson campus is filled with diversity AND has a more university-like feel.
2. It’s Downtown
Dawson has the best location of any CEGEP in Montreal. It is centrally located in the heart of Montreal, right between downtown and Westmount. It’s located right next to a movie theatre, major shopping centre, grocery stores, restaurants, parks, and the Atwater metro station.
3. The Plant
The Plant is Dawson’s very own student-run newspaper. It is the largest of any CEGEP with a circulation of approximately 1,350 copies. It was founded in 1969 and publishes weekly. For all aspiring journalists out there, editors are chosen at the end of each semester, so get your name in there early!
4. The Clubs
Dawson has a variety of student clubs & societies to get involved in. Ranging from your typical Business Club, Arts & Cinema Club, and Glee Club to your not-so-typical Pokemon Club or Science Fiction & Fantasy Association.
5. The Radio Station
CIXS: The Edge is Dawson’s radio station. It is broadcast in the student lounges and plays a variety of music. The best part is, for all aspiring musicians, music producers, or radio personalities, they offer training and experience to students.
6. Notable Alumni
There is no shortage of notable alumni at Dawson. Ranging from actors to athletes to human rights activists, Dawson has produced a ton of talented people. Actor Jon Lajoie, actor Jay Baruchel, Olympic gold-medalist Marie-Philip Poulin, NBA player Joel Anthony, and social activist Naomi Klein are just a few of Dawson’s most recognizable graduates.
